Q. I'm trying to hit ketosis. I take a multivitamin daily and a weekly prescription for a Vitamin D deficiency. I know it puts me in starvation mode, but my diet is fulled of nutrients and I'm going to stick with it. But what are symptoms of I guess a Obese Anorexic ? or my diet gone wrong? Is it really bad for an obese person to starve themselves? Because can't they live of the extra fat?
Thanks
Thanks
A. I'll share my experience with Vitamin d. I was feeling extremely run down, tired, no energy, depression etc and I had always been a get up and go type person with loads of energy and never depressed. My blood test showed my vitamin D level was almost non existant so I started on Vitamin D3. I took five 1,000 IU pills a day for the first 10 days then I took three pills a day for the next 2 months and now I take 1-2 pills every day. With in the first 4-5 days I felt alot better it felt as though the fog had lifted and I could see clearer. Over the next few months I am back to my old self I feel younger again with more energy and enthusiasum for life. I think my Vitamin D levels had gone down over a few years and I was putting my lack of energy and haziness down to getting older but when I began to feel really run down I went to my doctor for some answers. I had every blood test known to man and the only thing that came back as odd or low was the Vit D. Its amazing what the lack of this one vitamin can do to your life. I also now go outside alot more like I did when I was younger and get the original source of Vitamin D from the sun as much as possible. Side effects: absolutely no side effect, except I now feel one million times better. Highly recommended this vitamin. I purchase Vitamin d through reputable http://www.gofmanpharmacy.com/ they've been very reliable so far. Check this FDA link about Vitamin d http://google2.fda.gov/search?client=FDAgov&site=FDAgov-Recalls-Safety|FDAgov-Consumers|FDAgov-WarningLetters-ICECI|FDAgov-ImportAlerts-Industry|FDAgov-MedWatch-Safety|FDAgov-Section-Drugs&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=FDAgov&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&as_q=vitamin+d&num=20&btnG=Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&restrictBox=FDAgov-Recalls-Safety&restrictBox=FDAgov-Consumers&restrictBox=Medwatch&restrictBox=FDAgov-WarningLetters-ICECI&restrictBox=FDAgov-ImportAlerts-Industry&restrictBox=FDAgov-Section-Drugs&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&sort=date
Hope i helped.

Suffering from depression and anxiety would like to go an alternative route?
Q. I suffer from severe anxiety and depression. I have gone to the doctors and been put on every medicine known to man and nothing helps. One made me high as a kite which I did like but I couldn't feel (like laughing, crying at appropiate times) another made me think of every way of killing myself. I would like to do an alternative route. I'm done trying drugs-I'm never been one to be a pill popper and go to my doc's all the time. I feel as if I see my doctor more than my family-he's always switching my meds b/c I get negative side effects and then told me well maybe you are the type that won't benefit from meds? Then what do I do-he couldn't answer. I have found out my source of stress and I realize I need something! Anyone out there know of a herbal route I can take?
For people asking about my diet. I have rarely drink pop (once every few weeks) and eat mostly veggies, fish and some poultry. I eat pretty healty for my age and I do yoga, pilates, and cardio.

A. You are wiser than most. You have seen for yourself that your condition is not caused by a drug deficiency. There are many known causes of depression and/or anxiety. The best therapeutic approach is to find and fix your personal underlying causes. The medical literature is exploding with research that connects one or more of the following underlying problems with depression and other affective disorders:
1) Vitamin and mineral deficiencies (common on modern diets - even good ones like yours)
2) Heavy metal toxicities (lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, etc.)
3) Gastrointestinal disorders (often present even without specific signs or symptoms in the gut) such as Intestinal Dysbiosis (an imbalance in the types and amounts of micro-organisms living in the gut - often a result of the use of drugs such as antibiotics and acid-inhibitors), Intestinal Hyperpermeability (leaky gut syndrome - again, resulting from drugs such as NSAIDs and antibiotics), and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (again a product of drugs, especially acid-inhibitors like Nexium).
4) Food allergies/intolerances.
5) Mold allergies and other environmental/chemical allergies.
These are common disorders that are rarely tested for within the medical/psychiatric community.
I would like to suggest a powerful book to guide you in your quest for better health. It is written by Sherry Rogers, M.D. She is a leading clinician, researcher, and professional educator in the areas of functional medicine, nutritional biochemistry and environmental medicine. The book is called: "Depression Cured At Last". It is packed with over 700 scientific references to support her recommendations. You can order the book at Amazon.com or from the publisher at 1-800-846-6687. I highly recommend this book. (Get two copies and give one to your doctor!)
Best wishes and good luck.

What population group is at highest risk for osteomalacia?
Q. a. Infants
b. Elderly men
c. Adult women
d. Children ages 2-12 years

d. Children ages 2-12 years
A. Osteomalacia is vitamin D deficiency (and the spectrum of symptoms that causes.) It's commonly due to lack of sunlight exposure... and women generally have higher demands for vit D. So I'd say adult women are most at risk. Also note that in parts of the world where women are covered from head to toe, there's extremely high risk of vit D deficiency.
Elderly men (and women) may have elevated risk, as well. This is mostly due to decreased absorption (food sources) that frequently occurs as we age.
Among infants and children, vit D deficiency is called Rickets. Osteomalacia is adults only.

A. The condition called Osteomalacia is one where there is a significant softening of the bones in your body. It is usually caused by a vitamin D deficiency. In children, this condition is known as rickets. The concern is that Soft bones are more likely to bow and fracture than harder, more healthy bones.
This is similar, yet different from, osteoporosis, which is a another bone disorder that can also cause bone fracturing. Osteomalacia occurs when the bone-building process in our bodies does not perform correctly, while osteoporosis develops later because of a weakening of previously constructed bone.
Some of the symptoms of osteomalacia are achy pain in the bones and muscle weakness. Typically treatment involves increasing the amount of Vitamin D and calcium in addition to treating any underlying disorders that may be contributing to the deficiencies.
People who have both inadequate dietary intake of vitamin D and little exposure to sunlight have the highest risk of developing this disorder. Therefore the risk is highest in older adults as well as those who rarely get outdoors such as people who are housebound or hospitalized.
Insufficient sunlight is the cause of many problems. Sunlight is truly indispensable to our good health and peace of mind. Many people hide from the sun and deny themselves of the suns healing powers. They fear the suns damaging ultra-violet rays. History tells us the human race evolved and thrived under the light and energy of the sun.
Call for an appointment with your health care provider if you have symptoms of osteomalacia, or if you think that you may be at risk for this disorder.
For those who are seeking a healthy solution to many issues, but don't believe that medicinal solutions are the best way to go, let me point you to an alternative care website that will shine more light on these matters.
