I have cracked dry hands and wanted to know what vitamin or mineral dificency that is?

Q. Most of the 6 cracked areas are around creases where my fingers bend.
I may be dehydrated for sure but there must be a vitamin or mineral deficiency as well. This happens to me about 3 times a year and it hurts and it's a bit ugly.

A. This is the perfect time of year for this to happen. As cold weather can create a lot of dryness in the air which saps the moisture in your body.

Dry your hands as thoroughly as possible. Use a moisturized hand soap and immediately apply lotion after you dry before your hands dry out completely. If you must have you hands in water a lot try to wear gloves as much as possible. At night slather on lotion and wear cotton gloves to bed. There are also sleep gloves you can buy that have a gel coating inside that can help reduce the dry skin. They are worn at night to bed. Also look at using lotion or hand cream that has shea butter in it. Shea butter is a natural exfoliate.

If you do dishes by hand invest in a pair of Playtex gloves. Slather lotion on your hands put on the gloves and use the hottest water to wash and rince your dishes. Instant spa treatment. When done put baby powder in the gloves to help them dry out and not get smelly. Be sure to shake out before wearing again.

I've never seen any kind of vitamin or mineral deficiency cause for dry hands.

I have a vitamin D deficiency and i was wondering if i take vitamin d everyday will my hair start growin back?
Q. I am 19 year old girl i used to have super thick hair and its been falling out alot and i went to the doctors and they told me i had a deficiency of vit.D and i was wondering if i keep taking it will my hair grow back eventually?

A. Vitamin D is NOT THE only reason why hair grows. You need: Zinc, Cooper, Vitamin B12, Vitamin A, Biotin, and Folic Acid.

Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair" - the website had moved, type it in. Two others also:
http://www.webmd.com/skin-beauty/features/top-10-foods-for-healthy-hair
http://www.menshealth.com/spotlight/hair/best-food-for-healthy-hair.php
Fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains all supply B-complex vitamins, like biotin, folic acid and vitamin B12, as well as vitamin A, copper and zinc, which are all necessary for remedying dry, brittle hair and nourishing a healthy scalp. Some prime examples of foods that contain these nutrients for healthy hair include:
·                     Folic Acid - asparagus, beets, broccoli, avocados, Brussels sprouts, beans, chickpeas, soybeans, lentils, oranges, fresh peas, turkey and spinach.
·                     Biotin - cauliflower, liver, salmon, carrots, bananas, cereals, yeast, and soy flour. Keep in mind that biotin content is reduced when food is cooked or preserved.
·                     Vitamin B12 - foods rich in vitamin B12 include animal protein (such as beef, lamb, and veal), clams and oysters, liver, fish, milk, and egg yolks.
·                     Vitamin A - butter, egg yolks, fish, fortified milk, organ meats (such as
liver), and dark green, orange, red, and yellow fruits (persimmons) and vegetables, which all
contain beta-carotene.
. Copper - oysters and other shellfish, whole grains, beans, nuts, potatoes and organ meats are good sources of copper. Dark leafy greens, dried fruits such
as prunes, cocoa, black pepper, and yeast are also sources of copper in the diet.
Zinc beef, eggs, liver, pork, poultry, and oysters. Also is also abundant in other high-protein foods, like cheese, legumes and nuts.
If having a lush, beautiful mane of healthy hair is important to you, dont just look to hot oil treatments and shine emollients. Eat these foods for healthy hair and say bye-bye to bad hair days.

BUT . . . .It may grow very slowly or none at all if you've straightened your hair in the past.

DID YOU SAY they have been falling out alot? Find the 'cause' before you can find the solution, then eliminate them. Your hair will improve. Remember, whatever it was that caused them to fall out in the first place, it took years to get in your system, it will takes years to flush them down, so don't expect miracles overnight.

So many reasons for hair loss:

Supplements, steroids, hereditary, hair dyes perming, straightening, diet, having babies (yes I read once it happened to her), stress, medications with testosterone, certain antidepressants, menopause, anti-acne, and too much of everything. Add to that the 7,000 + toxic found in your home, plus pollution found outdoors. Your hair is crying for help!

Doctors don't know everything, they will just prescribe you a white little pill and everything are OK then they go to their next patient. My mother had suffered for 21 years, and they didn't even told her she's got cancer, until we rushed her to ER, then they did more testing, but by then she's got 3 months to live.

A. Only two things that affect the cere and nostrils ( M2MM has addressed beak issues not cere issues )...
Scaly face mites.........easily treatable with spot on ivermectin.
and
Hypertrophy of the Cere
This so-called "brown hypertrophy" may be likened to catarrh of a mucous surface and occurs in many types of chronic ill health. Apparently it is not caused by local infection, and ideally treatment consists of finding and treating the underlying cause. Do I really need to take Medicine for Vitamin D Deficiency?
Q. With treatment will a Vitamin D Deficiency ever go away? It's well 9mths and still Im deficient.Does anyone know what 268.9G mean in medical term when it related to a vitamin d deficiency? Just asking?

A. Yes, keep taking the meds--they will help. Vit D deficiency can have severe consequences--its not worth courting them by skipping your meds.
Osteomalacia, a bone-thinning disorder that occurs exclusively in adults and is characterized by proximal muscle weakness and bone fragility.
Osteoporosis, a condition characterized by reduced bone mineral density and increased bone fragility.

How much is it to get my little turtle treated for swollen eyes?
Q. I noticed last night that one of the two had its eyes swollen, today it got better. They have right temperature, but don't get much sunlight lately cause it's too cloudy. Anyhow, if the swollen eyes come back, I want to try to get it to the vet. How much could this cost to cure it with antibiotics if it's an infection or with vitamin A injection for vitamin deficiency?

A. Before you do anything, try feeding the turtles liver. If the problem is a vitamin A deficiency, that should correct it and continued feeding will prevent recurrence. If the problem is an infection or irritation, try irrigating the eyes with a solution of boric acid. If neither treatment works, call your vet to ask about costs. I trust that you have found a reptile vet.

Why is my hair thick at the top and thin aT the bottom?
Q. It just recently happened, well a couple of weeks ago I suffered from dehydration and some vitamin deficiency, could it be that???..... Yes I iron my hair but not on 400 usually around 300. I also put my hair in ponytails alot but this never happened before so I don't think it's the ponytail. Hellppppp mee!! What can I do to fix this problem?

A. Sounds like you need a good conditioning treatment to strengthen that hair. Vitamin def and dehyd. can definitely affect your hair, and using a very hot flat iron can destroy the ends. I would advise a good light trim and condition treatment from your local salon, and continue to use a good conditioner until you notice a difference in your hair, then only use it a couple times a week.

What harm can having Low Vitamin D do to your body?
Q. I just got my blood results back from my checkup I am nearly 27 years old and they said I have a vitamin deficiency of about 19
they said that it is really low for my age
what can having low vitamin d to to your body
what are the risks if left untreated
please help
thank you

A. Lots of people have a D deficiency. We use sunscreen and cover up to avoid skin cancer. Fortunately, it is easy to take Vitamin D3 as a supplement, and to get some sun (just a little) to make it yourself.

"Symptoms of bone pain and muscle weakness can mean you have a vitamin D deficiency. However, for many people, the symptoms are subtle. Yet even without symptoms, too little vitamin D can pose health risks. Low blood levels of the vitamin have been associated with the following:

Increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease
Cognitive impairment in older adults
Severe asthma in children
Cancer

Research suggests that vitamin D could play a role in the prevention and treatment of a number of different conditions, including type1 and type 2 diabetes, hypertension, glucose intolerance, and multiple sclerosis.

Can a vitamin d deficiency affect fertility?

Q. My husband and I have been trying to have another baby for over a year, we even tried fertility treatment but nothing worked and no one could seem to figure out why we were not conceiving. We did know that my progesterone was low but that was it. Even a RX for that didn't work. After giving up for a while I found that I have a vitamin d deficiency and have had it for well over a year...could this be why we have not conceived?

A. I honestly believe that a Vitamin D deficiency can affect your fertility. My husband and I tried for 5 years to get pregnant. Last dec I was feeling exhausted I had no strength what so ever. I went to the Dr. and they checked my vitamin D levels they were only at 4. I was diagnosed with a extreme vitamin d definacy and placed on a prescription of 50,000 units of vitamin d a week. On 01/27/10 I found out I was pregnant after just over a month of taking the vitamin d. I really think you should ask your dr for a blood to see where your levels are and if a prescription would help. Sadly I lost our son at 15 weeks due to down syndrome. I recently restarted taking the vitamin d again after stopping for a brief period. I'm hoping to have the same results with a healthy pregnancy this time around.

Does Laser treatment for facial hair cause vitamin D deficiency or skin cancer ?
Q. my wife is undergoing a a laser treatment for hair removal for past 5 to 6 years . She seems to have developed a severe Vitamin D deficiency and bone loss. Could This be a effect of laser treatment ?

A. I can't find any concrete evidence that laser hair removal causes vitamin d deficiency, although everyone's bodies react differently to different treatments. As for cancer, according to the below article, no, it doesn't cause skin cancer.

What causes a parakeet's nostrils to grow over and eventually close.?
Q. I was told it was a vitamin K deficiency. Is this true and is it treatable.
I work at a petstore and a parakeet there is going thru the same thing. My bird died (not because of this problem) but does anyone know what causes it for sure.

The cere should be treated also by picking away the heaped-up material and applying a little oily lotion, cod liver oil, Dettol or bland ointment. Below is a picture of a Budgie with hypertrophy of the cere.

The growth can sometimes be caused by mites or tumours.

What harm can having Low Vitamin D do to your body?

Q. I just got my blood results back from my checkup I am nearly 27 years old and they said I have a vitamin deficiency of about 19
they said that it is really low for my age
what can having low vitamin d to to your body
what are the risks if left untreated

Sources:
I know hair. I have 4 decades of hair know-how. I have silky, shiny, soft, smooth very healthy hair down to my knees. Previously damaged by perming & dyeing in the 80's & 90's. I've known people in their 30's whose hair stopped growing from ironing their hair in the 70's.

My fingernails seem to be getting softer and thinner and want to know the reason why?
Q. I have always done the jello thing for stronger nails. What else can I do and also could this be a vitamin deficiency?

A. It could perhaps be a vitamin deficiency but calcium is also needed to keep nails strong so try drinking lots of milk and calcium enriched products. There are also speacial treatments that you can probably get from local nail care specialists that can help your nails become stronger. if you see no improvenet after a few weeks go to your doctor.
